i have setup primary dns server 10.10.10.2  (win  server 2008r2) , secondary dns server 10.10.10.3(win server 2003). when trying ping domain name abc.com, getting reply secondary dns server, not primary one. can 1 advice issue? there serious need fix asap?? when ping name, os contacts preferred dns name resolving. ip address gets can either domain controller, old 1 , new one, because dns have service records both dcs , go through them round robin. the dns role , domain services roles not linked. i.e. because 1 preferred dns not mean preferred dc. why critical reply 2008 dc? if because want demote 2003 dc, don't worry. when demoted, removed dns , dns query dc return 2008 dc because dc knows. we have service account has unusual authentication problem. account runs fine on our server 2008 r2 server, same account not appear able use kerberos authentication domain controller. logged in, balloon tip says: "windows needs current credentials. please lock computer, unlock using recent password or smart card." logging out or rebooting doesn't help. we noticed kerberos logon not complete when trying use service account connect sql server on different box. during sql server connection process able network capture, , have noticed kerberos fails requiring preauth (which understand normal), never see successful kerberos authentication domain controller in network trace or security logs. if turn off pre-authentication, can see issue related encryption due krb5kdc_err_etype_nosupp error. so believe have encryption issue, except if else logs server, none of these problems exist. have made account member of same groups part of (way more rights required), , have...

hi, i have 2 windows 2008 servers.  1 domain controller, let's call dc , other sql box, let's call sql.  so, want setup domain user account can use on sql box.  sql box has been added dc's domain.  setup domain user account in active directory.  navigate computers , select manage on sql box.  navigate administrators group, , add domain user account created. once that, , go administrators group (for sql box) in active directory, sid listed domain user account instead of actual user name.  if try , login sql box domain user account, able login, if attempt perform admin activity, don't have permissions so.  if on sql box (and login local admin), , navigate , open administrators group, there is no domain user account listed. so, able login sql box domain account, don't have local admin priviledge reason.  have set windows firewall off on both dc , sql box.  doesn't seem help. i @ loss try next.  thoughts? thanks.   hi,   based on research, group policies ma...

hi all, great resource. i've found lot of answers here think 1 different enough warrant post. i developer. hyper-v seems thing need set environment can use develop n-tier applications in cost-effective way. fact recommended config let server run hyper-v role, becoming parent, , set vm's represent other roles , app servers distributed within enterprise. in case, www server, database server, ldap directory, , couple of test client os's. perhaps base development environment can installed in vm too, expect app servers undergo light loads 90% of time. right i've got basic full install file services role , bare min of features permit wireless lan networking function. ordinarily i'd add in antivirus , backup applications part of base feature set. then, add whatever role or software appropriate make app server need. so question is, we're going getting virtual our bad selves, anti-virus client necessary/recommended in parent vm? if weigh in on best practices backup strat...
