Applying computer settings for a long time
windows 2008 r2 (fully patched)
single server environment, domain controller
dns server entry nic own ip address, , per best practices analyzer 127.0.0.1 secondary.
ran bpa on ad , dns roles, no significant errors. there few related dns, corrected them.
at random, clients take 10-15 minutes past "applying computer settings". once logged on can ping server hostname, netbios name , ip directly. can ping internal domain name, resolves domain controller.
dcdiag doesn't show errors (other rodc error isn't applicable).
group policy results wizard threw errors, have corrected, slowness still persists.
verbose status messages enabled via gpo , "applying computer settings" sits extended time. other steps quick.
any ideas? thanks!
i recommend checking following:
- your dc should not multi-homed. 1 nic should enabled , 1 ip address should used
- your client computer should point dc internal dns server (do not add public dns servers. instead, put isp dns servers dns forwarders on dc)
- disable temporary security software in use on dc, client or between them testing
- check applied gpos (example: folder redirection or drive mapping might create slowness when not applied properly). can move computer new ou no gpo applied , check if helps (tip - if use folder redirection then, before moving computer new ou, make sure gpo configured redirect local profile when no longer applied on computer).
- if none helped might want check network equipment health status
