Would you install antivirus on the Parent, or just the children?

hi all, great resource. i've found lot of answers here think 1 different enough warrant post.

i developer. hyper-v seems thing need set environment can use develop n-tier applications in cost-effective way. fact recommended config let server run hyper-v role, becoming parent, , set vm's represent other roles , app servers distributed within enterprise. in case, www server, database server, ldap directory, , couple of test client os's. perhaps base development environment can installed in vm too, expect app servers undergo light loads 90% of time.

right i've got basic full install file services role , bare min of features permit wireless lan networking function.

ordinarily i'd add in antivirus , backup applications part of base feature set. then, add whatever role or software appropriate make app server need.

so question is, we're going getting virtual our bad selves, anti-virus client necessary/recommended in parent vm?

if weigh in on best practices backup strategy (like, should each child responsible backing itself... , can they?) i'd appreciate info too.

thank you!

me, depends on host can whether i'd make sure i've have av or not.  if it's set file server mention, it's definite yes av, if can access internet @ all, yes, if it's wu.  if it's totally locked down, no internet, no file shares open, no netbios, maybe i'd think of not using av.

i'd make sure av set not scan vhd's.

as backup, run backup server , guests same way physical pc, think may better way on parent partition using vss, haven't done real testing yet...
