DFS overwhelmed

we have 22 sites in our dfs structure have been working 2 years no issues.  year, uploaded 3 new windows images , bunch of other software updates on same day putting on staging quota.  backlog on 200,000 files , processing 30,000 during non-business hours.  fixed quota, setting 32times size our largest image on 22 servers.  ever since then, dfs seems doing nothing writing it's private folder , not syncing anything.  it's it's trying calculate differential files our 1.2tb of data.   performance monitor shows couple kb/sec of data transfer between sites yet backlog still on 100,000 files @ each site.  should disable remote differential compression (rdc), sync files rather endlessly calculating whatever?
