hey guys, i've come problem hope can with.  first post on technet.  have new server build on i've installed windows server 2012 r2 essentials.  actual essentials product, not standard or datacenter license experience role installed. this entering existing windows server 2003 domain.  once it's setup, it'll primary dc.  it's being installed hyper-v environment. i've attempted follow best can in our environment 8 step process on technet migrating os , having existing domain.  has done smoothly, except post-configuration of essentials experience role.  fails every time far.  else seems functioning smoothly. the first time failed because has installed certificate authority on server.  once realized wasn't allowed, uninstalled ca, rebooted , tried again.  failed time , looking @ logs, error "the certserv service not installed".  didn't make sense me why failed prerequisite check ca installed, , failed anyway aft...

i running hyper-v r2 server dual-cpu, each cpu being quad-core, lots of ram , several mirrored arrays of sas drives.  for key vm guests (the ones need performance), dedicating raid1 array vhd. i have been of understanding dynamically-expanding disks have performance penalty associated them compared fixed-sized vhd.  what performance penalty if use dynamically-expanding vhd instead of fixed-size vhd logical size of vhd same? and if put 1 guest's vhd onto own disk (raid1 array), diminish or mitigate performance penalty? would if periodically defragmented dynamically-expanding vhd?   here specific situation , reason ask: i need guarantee performance particular win 2003 std vm.  it needs have 100gb of disk space.  i have given fixed-sized 100gb vhd on own raid1 array of 146gb sas drives.  performance fine. what not make backup of vhd, being full 100gb in size, takes 45 minutes send server on gigabit network connection.  the size of data wit...

when creating nic team on windows server 2012 r2 server, microsoft recommends using dynamic load balancing mode instead of address hash. in our data center have been using switch independent teaming mode , address hash load balancing mode because primary nic connected 1 gb switch , standby adapter connected 100 mb switch temporary failover if gb switch fails. if set teaming mode switch independent , load balancing mode dynamic 100 mb nic in mix, how affect performance , speed of network traffic? don't want have bandwidth issues 100 mb nic in mix so that's why have stuck address hash far.  thoughts? thanks information nothing answered question.  guess need know is if using dynamic load balancing mode when 2 nics running @ different speeds (100mb , 1gb).  example, if doing large file copies via smb share or doing backups dpm, possible traffic stuck using 100mb nic instead of 1gb nic and slow down process or smart enough not let happen? it's not sm...

hi community! i have quickbooks remoteapp running on 2008r2 server. every single client connects (win7, win8, win10) start app in minimized state. annoying users, don't realize app has started few seconds. have searched web without (i don't think windows update issue different os's). else experienced this? support! i have tried of above suggestions, plus some....and somewhere along way stopped starting minimized, still normal window , not maximized. not desired resolution, @ least not confusing client anymore starting minimized. hi, i've installed server essentials 2012 and i'm trying add networked shares folders list hosted on storage server 2012. when click 'add folder' , select browse, can't see the storage server which hosting shares. can see all my other w2k8r2 servers fine. i've turned 'computer browser' service on , enabled netbios on tcp/ip on storage server but still can't server displayed. on essentials server - can see , access storage server fine if click on network. any pointers appreciated. many thanks, have enabled 'file , printer sharing'? you can try disabling firewall on server Windows Server  >  Windows Server 2012 Essentials

hello all, i'm in process of implementing group policy small company not have in place. first step putting select computers in group, , implementing gpo group. the first thing i'd implement have these computers download , automatically install windows updates. i've made sure computer won't restart automatically after installing updates without user clicking on restart now, employees seem leave work open. my question is, happens big updates such as .net framework service packs and internet explorer 8, example? know there concerns compatibility issues ie8, so may not want newer updates be installed right away without testing them first. have stop deployment of these updates if wanted not have them installed right away? i'm wondering updates programs such adobe acrobat , java. since users on our domain running under limited user accounts, should somehow push updates these programs them? or should not worry updates these programs? i'm not sure if these updates are u...
