according description, understanding failed configure windows server 2016 essentials.

want confirm if had create new domain when installing/configuring essentials server? or, adding existing domain environment?

if there existing domain, please manually configure server replica dc first, then, transfer fsmo roles, , completing configure windows server essentials wizard.

reference blog “deploying windows server 2012 r2 essentials in existing active directory environment” check detail steps (it applied windows server 2016 essentials):

  1. At least in my case, the reason and solution was much simpler, though not easy to find.
Basically by running remove/add essentials role a couple of times, I ran into this "stuck at 89%" problem.
Reason: permission problem on two folders in C:\Server\Folders
Solution: move them out of the way
