RSOP for Windows XP Clients stopped working

have problem @ customers site: rsop from gpmc (installed on windows 2008 sp2 member server) windows xp sp3 clients stopped working: error "rpc server unavailable" appears after 30 seconds.

- works when windows firewall disabled on xp client
- remote administration exception enabled in gpo , in place on xp client
- have enabled firewall logging on xp client. have seen client blocks tcp connection port 1139 management server gpmc installed.
- have created exception "gpmc rsop" allows tcp connections port 1139 , verified exception in place on the test client. now, gpmc console tries connect tcp port 1126 on windows xp test client, according pfirewall.log.

looks need allow port 135 - initial port, subsequent ports random. got suggested fix @ http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc782615(ws.10).aspx . relates w2k3 server, should ok 2008 well.

task target computer administrative computer

generate group policy results

enable windows firewall allow remote administration exception group policy setting.

this group policy setting located in computer configuration \administrative templates\network \network connections\windows firewall\[domain | standard] profile\.

gpmc sp1.

no action required.

rsop snap-in.

enable windows firewall: define program exceptions. configure program exception list full path unsecapp.exe wmi messages can transmitted. in default installation unsecapp.exe located in c:\windows\system32\wbem folder.

enable windows firewall: define port exception policy open port 135.
