Flat File Connection OR Logging + UNC path VS drive letter

hi,

i setting lot of variables used flat file connections or unc paths. suppose, need pack file dev server file resides on d drive. set variable as:

\\devserver\d$\testing\aaa.txt

rather d:\testing\aaa.txt

when moved testing or production, underlying folder structure stays same i.e on test

it may e:\testing\aaa.txt.

usually, when package moved, open package on server , set variable values. ours small company.

some that, when path local, if set unc path, resource intensive and request leaves local computer dns lookup so, saying changing drive letter.

these packages run batch file or sql job.

what best options follow , there articles support.

thanks,
