Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V
on windows server 2012 r2 hyper-v host, there 4 virtual machines. vms have internet connectivity through external virtual switch. however, vms unable ping each other. tried using second virtual private switch, doesn't work. insight appreciated. also, location of documentation on networking vms appreciated. example, external switch enough vms communicate internally , externally? there doesn't appear reason why shouldn't.
ping not best way check network connection these days. many personal firewalls do not allow ping default.
machines on same private switch should see each other. machines on external virtual switch should see each other , physical machines on bridged physical network.
use standard checks network connectivity (same network, same subnet etc) debug.
vms not clones, they? if are, check mac addresses not identical.
machines identical mac addresses cannot communicate because same machine far network software concerned.
