primary domain/soa defaults
hi all. hoping expert can clarify me.
i've set win20008r2 dns/mail/iis server website when create new zone uses server name (myserver01.mydomain.com) rather ns1.mydomain.com. realise can change dns zone manually each time wasn't sure if had done wrong?
it appears way change rename server "ns1" seems silly.
nb. before mentions realize hosting dns on same server bad idea.

hi david,
actually, if dc (domain controller), dns ok install on it. bad idea part running exchange on it, assuming "mail" in post, exchange server. i've outlined ramifications in blog:

if you're hosting public domain zone on internet, , not sure if you're intentions are, it's suggested either 2 separate servers (the registrar requires minimum of 2 host nameservers purpose) or allow registrar host public records. because internal names different different ips, if internal , external domain names same. it's exposing internal dns possible attacks, if dc.
as soa, aligns machine's name. it's you'll need change each time create zone. yes, short of rename ns1.
