How to correctly rename a redirected home drive

hello. i'm aware of fact when users' home directories redirected network share, folders renamed 'documents' when client has logged on windows 7 machine.

my question is, need rename user's folder, reflect change in surname. should add upn name has been updated within ad, , home drive maps without issue.the problem here involves folder redirection, particularly 'desktop' folder. due group policy redirection using path value of \\server\sharename\%username%\desktop, policy attempting create 'desktop' folder within \\server\sharename\%username%(new surname). of course, fail happen, home folder doesn't exist user's new surname, previous name (only upn updated in ad, path homedrive remains same containing previous surname).

i updating homedrive path within ad user account, before doing need rename existing home folder. there way when folder named 'documents' (due folder redirection issue indicated @ beginning of post).

can rename 'documents', or cause issues? easier set new homedrive path within ad user account, have folder new name auto-create, , move existing documents on new folder?

thanks.
