WDS client computer is loading wrong/outdated boot.wim resulting in missing network drivers
i @ loss here.
to make problem more transparent, start @ beginning.
i got 36 pcs in lab shall installed using wds. set wds server, copied boot.wim from a vista installation medium distribution image, prepared capturing image using waik , installed them wds server. everthing worked. capture prepared xp-master pc , distribute image other pcs having same hardware.
some time ago aquired 20 new pcs replace older ones. lab consists of 16 identical pcs (dell optiplex 745) , 20 new identical pcs. (dell optiplex 760)
the new ones configured use wds server , works until time comes loading networkdrivers new pcs.
both, capture , distribution image unable load appropriate drivers integrated driver both images using imagex , peimg.
until point went smoothly.
for testing purposes booted capture image , used "ipconfig /all" verify working network driver. odd behaviour started:
the capture image, prepared , customized using waik worked fine. found , loaded newly integrated drivers well, no problem here.
the distribution image, copied vista sp1 dvd did not. got same error saying, no appropriate driver found.
i remounted image wds server uses , searched changes made peimg. found in windows\inf. there oem.inf , oem.pnf created @ time added drivers. drivers there. booted client again , got same error.
using cmd pressing shift+f10 , brwosing through driver directory discovered newly intergrated drivers disappeared. image structure loaded client untouched 1 copied vista dvd.
at point thought cache mechanism pushing outdated image client.
- shut down client time make sure no data kept in memory.
- restarted wds server service
- set completly new image new drivers (by using old copy of boot.wim).
- copied full driver package windows\inf\de-de folder of image. replaced other image new one.
nothing works.
the distribution image client loads not contain integrated drivers.
and question:
how can happen?
is there way boot distribution image , restart wds client after loading driver via drvload usbstick?
or there totally missed?
some maybe helpful additional information:
server:
- windows server 2008 sp2 installed wds role , updates
- os distribute winxp sp3 (master installed , captured after using sysprep)
thank in advance.
