License Manager - Where to start
hey, i'm building new server use rds. its server 2008 r2 on hp ml350 g6 (4-core xeon e5620, 16gb ram, firepro v6800 gpu (want utilize remotefx).
i purchased server 2008r2 cal + 25 additional server 2008 cals , 15 rds cals. these volume licensing , received kms , mak keys allocated activations available/used.
so far, i've installed remote desktop services , hyper-v roles on server. aside i've installed remaining patches , drivers.
i have 2 locations connected via t1, the primary server drsowsrvr , ml350 g6 (4-core xeon e5540 + 6gb ram on server 2003 standard). the client had server 2003 term server installed when took on work, built on p4 @2.8ghz , 2gb of ram, yes pathetic. especially when consider have 13 concurrent ts sessions @ given time (we purchased 15 plan future)
should use base os hyperv server , install server2008r2 virtual server , install rds services on machine? or should install rds on base os?
we have proprietary software program primary responsibility of terminal server , have 13 thin client computers while other 12 desktops have proprietary software installed locally (so data being transferred on network on , on again). eliminate , work @ getting of these devices using rds, thin clients own windows profiles (utilizing remotefx) , desktops utilize (i know need purchase more rds keys if so) or virtualize application. recommend bulk of work through virtualized servers backups nice , easy perform (via snapshots etc) or forget hyper-v , work right on base os? thinking in event of failure, have hyper-v installed , setup virtual network , can these other os's set up.
so aside that, need licensing, what need install , how these licenses installed on server?
thanks in advance
