Will TS licensing cache registry change after migration?

i migrate ts licenses w2k3 ts ls w2k8 r2 rd ls deactivate old w2k3 ts ls. registry hklm\software\microsoft\mslicensing\parameters\ domainlicenseservermulti on ts servers purged/changed reflect migration automatically?

the registry hklm\software\microsoft\mslicensing\parameters\ domainlicenseservermulti on terminal server not migration automatically. depend on group policy settings.

 

when install new rd licensing role service, need specify discovery scope, determines how terminal services license server automatically discoverable terminal servers.

 

the 3 discovery scopes are:

  • workgroup
  • domain
  • forest

the recommended discovery scope license server forest.

 

if configure forest discovery scope, terminal servers, without additional configuration, can automatically discover license server in same forest, because license server published in active directory domain services. configure forest discovery scope, must logged on enterprise administrator forest in license server member.

 

in addition, go remote desktop session host configuration , check licensing mode if equal rds cals have installed , activated.

 

specifying license server discovery mode:

a terminal server must able contact (discover) terminal services license server in order request terminal services client access licenses (ts cals) users or computing devices connecting terminal server.

 

the license server discovery mode terminal server can set in following ways:

 

1.       by configuring license server discovery mode terminal server in terminal services configuration tool.

if specify license server discovery mode choices dimmed , cannot make selection, use specified terminal services license servers group policy setting has been enabled , has been applied terminal server.

 

2.       by applying use specified terminal services license servers group policy setting.

this group policy setting located in computer configuration\administrative templates\windows components\remote desktop services\remote desktop session host \licensing , can configured using either local group policy editor or group policy management console (gpmc). note group policy setting take precedence on setting configured in terminal services configuration.

 

3.       to specify license server discovery mode on terminal server using terminal services configuration

1.       on terminal server, open terminal services configuration. open terminal services configuration, click start, point administrative tools, point remote desktop services, , click remote desktop session host configuration.

2.       under licensing, double-click license server discovery mode.

3.       select either of following, depending on appropriate environment:

a)      automatically discover license server

b)      use specified license servers

4.       after have made selection, click ok.

Can no longer user MS Update - Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered

hi, i'm new server 2003.  installed it.  removed enhanced ie security.  proceed download , install windows server 2003 sp1, of dot net (1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, , updates), , sp2. after downloaded , installed of above, tried windows update menu option in ie.  (ie 8 windows server 2003) , sits there "done" in lower left hand corner.  never brings in window. so try www.microsoft.com -> download , trails -> update.  received error message "files required use microsoft update no longer registered or installed on computer".  click on register or reinstall files me now.  window changes , "check latest version of windows updating software .... ".   sits there (last time sat there on hour). i went on internet , found instructions: regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wups.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 atl.dll regsvr32 msxml3.dll did not work either.  have other suggestions?...
