Windows 2008 R2 server and Greyed out Domain option and no Remote Desktop options

we have installed windows 2008 r2 on new server placed our windows 2008 domain.   in doing so, noticed after installing windows 2008 r2 updates lost both ability join domain , establish remote desktop.  workgroup/domain option "domain" greyed out , there no option establish remote desktop. however, when login local administrator, can ping resources in domain.   but, because these options not available (only domain greyed out...remote desktop doesn't show in remote options) can not connect create computer not establish in dns.   has seen before?

i not entirely sure mean.

but i'm surmising if problems started after installing update, , there no gpos controlling remote desktop properties applying machine controlling rdp settings (making them grayed out when try alter them on machine, gpo managed settings, of course depending on settings), highly suggest , recommend contact microsoft support. support free windows update problems.
