removing server 2000 after adding a 2008 DC to a 2000 domain

i have followed instructions , added server 2008 r2 existing windows 2000 domain.  remove windows 2000 server , bring forest @ least server 2008 mixed mode.  need accomplish this?

so want demote box.  

1.  does hold fsmo roles?  > if transfer them 2008 r2 box.

2.  is 2000 box dns server?  > if make sure clients (static, apps, dhcp) pointing new box fo dns

3.  did make 2008 r2 box global catalog > if not that

4.  i noticed said added "a" server 2008 r2 box

does mean if  you remove 2000 dc have 1 dc left.  i'd recommend having @ least 2 dcs in production environment.

once sure nothing using 2000 box anymore can safely demote it.

some people shut old dc down day or 2 before demotion make sure.

Can no longer user MS Update - Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered

hi, i'm new server 2003.  installed it.  removed enhanced ie security.  proceed download , install windows server 2003 sp1, of dot net (1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, , updates), , sp2. after downloaded , installed of above, tried windows update menu option in ie.  (ie 8 windows server 2003) , sits there "done" in lower left hand corner.  never brings in window. so try www.microsoft.com -> download , trails -> update.  received error message "files required use microsoft update no longer registered or installed on computer".  click on register or reinstall files me now.  window changes , "check latest version of windows updating software .... ".   sits there (last time sat there on hour). i went on internet , found instructions: regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wups.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 atl.dll regsvr32 msxml3.dll did not work either.  have other suggestions?...

How do a find data in one file, search for it in another file and if not found, write a custom message to another file
