Can no longer user MS Update - Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered

hi,

i'm new server 2003.  installed it.  removed enhanced ie security.  proceed download , install windows server 2003 sp1, of dot net (1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, , updates), , sp2.

after downloaded , installed of above, tried windows update menu option in ie.  (ie 8 windows server 2003) , sits there "done" in lower left hand corner.  never brings in window.

so try www.microsoft.com -> download , trails -> update.  received error message "files required use microsoft update no longer registered or installed on computer".  click on register or reinstall files me now.  window changes , "check latest version of windows updating software .... ".   sits there (last time sat there on hour).

i went on internet , found instructions:

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll

did not work either.  have other suggestions?

then suggest trying below:

 

step 1: re-register relevant xml components
=========================================
issue can occur when xml component not working properly. let's refer following steps issue resolved:

 

1. click start , click run , type: cmd , press enter.
2. in opened window, run following command:

 

regsvr32 msxml3.dll

 

3. please install msxml 3.0 service pack 7 (sp7) following link:

 

a. please download update following link:

 

microsoft xml parser (msxml) 3.0 service pack 7 (sp7):
http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/8/8/888f34b7-4f54-4f06-8dac-fa29b19f33dd/msxml3.msi

 

b. when file download window appears, please click save button, , follow directions save desktop.
c. after downloading file, please double-click "msxml3.msi" file desktop. installation launched automatically.

 

if suggestion 1 not resolve issue, please try suggestion 2 below:

 

step 2: re-register windows update components

1. click start , click run.
2. in open field type "regsvr32 wuapi.dll" (without quotation marks) , press enter.
3. when receive "dllregisterserver in wuapi.dll succeeded" message, click ok.
4. please repeat these steps each of following commands:

 

note: if encounter errors while registering of these files, please let me know dll file failed. then, please continue register other files.

 

regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 msxml2.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
