Farm Question

we planning out our farm our upgrade , have hope simple question.  do servers need same in farm?  i mean can have "main" server better second or third?

for example server 1: dual 6 core 32 gb
server 2: dual quad core 16gb
server 3: dual quad core 16gb (slower).
running server 2008

i'm not sure @ point if need 3rd, figured i'd list incase.  the broker on server.  obviously isn't ideal setup, trying work have available year.  also broker need same version, ts 2008 broker may 2008 r2 or vice versa...

thanks in advance!!

hi!

technically, servers don't need same in farm. however, depending on load balancing mechanism may lead unwanted behavior. example if using rd connection broker load balancer divide sessions on rd session host servers in farm equally, based on number of sessions. not redirect more users server better specs , less users servers less specs not evaluate available, memory, cpu etc. there 3rd party loadbalancer (software of hardware) evaluate resources , don’t evaluate number of sessions per user, mean additional costs load balancing appliance or software solutions. bottom line, technically can take in mind not use resources of rd session host servers , load not spread ideally based on available resources per rd session host.
