DHCP Server Goes Offline, why are PC's not holding onto their leased DHCP address after reboot?
hi all,
i simulating outage of dc collegue , came across unexpected dhcp behaviour.
the lab setup follows:
ad sitea: servername adc01 (w2k8r2) - ad, dns dhcp sitea
ad siteb: servername adc02 (w2k8r2) - ad, dns dhcp siteb
the server adc02 disconnected network (to simulate dc outage). clients in siteb logoff/logon , continue working expected using adc01 dns , ad authentication = correct behaviour .
however when client in siteb rebooted, not hold onto dhcp address had prior adc02 being disconnected network.
why happening? clients ip address lease 8days, loss of adc02 should not cause client (winxp btw) lose it's leased ip address?
any ideas?
hi all,
i have consulted of colleagues , conclusion :
“if dhcp server unreachable , dhcp client machine goes in rebinding state, not lose ip till lease expires; however, if reboot client machine or disable , enable nic lose ip , goes in discover stage.”
in case seems expected behavior of microsoft windows xp client machine.
thanks.
