restrict editing

my document on 1000 pages hundreds of tables in many different formats, (all same font, character size, , line spacing), indents , top/bottom margins in table vary widely. i'm not sure styles feature use here. find them confusing , explanations i've found inadequate.

some table formats in document being changed when reading in, without say-so. in making doc paid no attention styles , suspect styles being applied on reading doc. i  found review tab > restrict editing , checked limit formatting , under settings selected none, trying prevent styles changing formatting. i'm not sure if prevents unwanted format changes when read doc in.

since document changes when open it, make sure deselect “automatically update document styles” option in templates , add-ins dialog box.

             

to display dialog box: display developer tab (in word 2010, click file tab | options | customize ribbon , click select developer tab). on developer tab, click document template.
