.net update keeps failing on 2 Windows 2003 servers.
both servers are 2003 standard edition. both failing on microsoft .net framework 3.5 service pack 1 , .net framework 3.5 family update .net versions 2.0 through 3.5 (kb951847) x86 update, causing subsequent updates fail well. event log showing msiinstall error event 10005, msiinstall error event 1023 , hotfixinstall eror evert 5000.

you may need reinstall .net framework components:
step 1.completely remove .net framework
====================
1. please download dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip following site , extract it.

2. double click cleanup_tool.exe run tool.
3. please follow instruction , click cleanup remove .net framework - versions.
then, please continue next steps.
step 2.remove related files in safe mode

1. restart computer , keep pressing f8 key until windows startup menu appears.
2. choose safe mode, , press enter.
3. click "start" -> "run", type "%windir%" (without quotation marks) , press "ok".
4. locate "assembly" folder , right click on , choose rename rename assemblyold.
5. click "start" -> "run", type "%temp%" (without quotation marks) , press "ok".
6. delete files in open folder.
7. click "start" -> "run", type "%windir%\microsoft.net" (without quotation marks) , press "ok".
8. right click on folder framework , choose rename rename frameworkold.
9. restart system normal mode.
after restarting, please try install .net framework 3.5 again.
step 3.manually downloading , installing microsoft .net framework 3.5

2. when file download window appears, please click "save", , follow directions save on desktop. after downloading microsoft .net framework 3.5 , sp1 setup file on desktop, double-click manually install them.
