Group Policy Preferences - Why?

hi all,

first time poster i'm afraid, there's bugging me rc1 , can't find answer anywhere.

i've looked after number of 2003 domains time, , have considered preference mode in group policy pointless exercise in corporate environment. why i want settings in gpo aren't enforced?

i installed 2008 rc1 @ weekend in order see differences group policy, see have expanded preference mode become preferences. there's great functionality in there, (the drive , printer mapping in particular), it's not enforced, in company employees have little knowledge (a dangerous thing...), means users going annoying our servicedesk things should have left alone in first place.

i'm missing point preferences - not make more sense make increase in functionality in policy settings rather preferences?

i thank patience in potentially showing me error of ways...

i think might looking for:
