Most clients NOT reporting status to WSUS 3.0 SP2

updates downloaded , installed, status not reported wsus.

http://lsvsms001:8530/simpleauthwebservice/simpleauth.asmx is accessible, test control not appear client.  when browsing server itself.

windows 7 , xp behave same.

group policy targeting working correctly.  clients placed correct computer group.

i setup roaming laptops report/retrieve 1 of wsus servers.  have isa server in dmz.  intend create dns record, call wsus.xyz.com, , have isa server redirect incoming queries wsus control server.  workable?  have split dns, internal record reporting same server no problem.


yes, workable, you'll want sure configure web publishing rule wsus server passthru ip of requesting client wsus server reports ip address of client, rather ip address of isa server.

if these roaming clients, note likelihood ip addresses may change time time -- , being case, carries couple of other caveats consider:

  • strictly speaking, wsus eula requires clients of licensee of wsus system updated, , means these scenarios implemented via vpn connection, in case client systems have same address, depending on dhcp policies.
  • there security considerations why wouldn't want publish wsus server on open internet-facing port.

Can no longer user MS Update - Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered

hi, i'm new server 2003.  installed it.  removed enhanced ie security.  proceed download , install windows server 2003 sp1, of dot net (1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, , updates), , sp2. after downloaded , installed of above, tried windows update menu option in ie.  (ie 8 windows server 2003) , sits there "done" in lower left hand corner.  never brings in window. so try www.microsoft.com -> download , trails -> update.  received error message "files required use microsoft update no longer registered or installed on computer".  click on register or reinstall files me now.  window changes , "check latest version of windows updating software .... ".   sits there (last time sat there on hour). i went on internet , found instructions: regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wups.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 atl.dll regsvr32 msxml3.dll did not work either.  have other suggestions?...
