Group Policy for 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Server Not Taking Place
we have 2 windows 2003 terminal servers part of 'terminal server' ou in ad. ou has group policy tied locks down 2003 terminal servers. working. have created new windows 2008 r2 'remote desktop server' , added ou. did yesterday. today did 'gpupdate /force' along rebooting server. result reason group policy not taking effect.
another thing strange if run rsop.msc on new 2008 server not see 'userconfiguration-->administrative templates' (i see on 2003 terminal servers , have group policy changes in hive). see 'user configuration-->software settings' & 'user configuration-->windows settings' which see on 2003 terminal servers.
thanks in advance help!

hi,
many settings have changed between 2003 , 2008 r2. in order make sure correct gpo settings applied 2008 r2, best practice recreate gpo using gpmc console on 2008 r2 or windows 7 machine. once created, settings typically backwards compatible (for 2003 servers) test not settings work seamlessly , depending on settings, may need 2 gpos, 1 2003 , 1 2008 r2.
rsop.msc show settings applied if administrative templates branch missing, system doesn't see applied settings in section.
on side note, since target of policy computer accounts , settings user settings, assume using loopback policies, correct? otherwise part of problem.
thanks,
guy
