What server licenses needed

i helping friend setup server or servers small number of employees can vpn in , use terminal server run business system application client.   keep getting conflicting answers minimum licencing , hardware needed.  has 1 computer server.

i being told need use sbs 2003 or 2008, number of windows cals, number of terminal server cals, , second server win 2003 std server used terminal server/application server.  thing sbs 2003 server provde dc function.

is necessary?  can use 1 server using win 2003 std server , not setup domain , group policies sbs server?

what best approach this?

if understand correctly, you want have 1 machine (win 2003 std server) , use ts server. can install both ts role , ts license server role on same machine. way don't need dc. long ts server can access ts license server, things work, case if install both on same machine. can install ts cals on license server , clients can connect.

Can no longer user MS Update - Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered

hi, i'm new server 2003.  installed it.  removed enhanced ie security.  proceed download , install windows server 2003 sp1, of dot net (1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, , updates), , sp2. after downloaded , installed of above, tried windows update menu option in ie.  (ie 8 windows server 2003) , sits there "done" in lower left hand corner.  never brings in window. so try www.microsoft.com -> download , trails -> update.  received error message "files required use microsoft update no longer registered or installed on computer".  click on register or reinstall files me now.  window changes , "check latest version of windows updating software .... ".   sits there (last time sat there on hour). i went on internet , found instructions: regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wups.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 atl.dll regsvr32 msxml3.dll did not work either.  have other suggestions?...

How do a find data in one file, search for it in another file and if not found, write a custom message to another file
