Intermittant performance issues (every 5-10 mins) with relativly light server usage

im experienced windows server new hyperv. thought i'd migrate home environment first hands on experience , im having real troubble.

one of roles server plays file server of media files (like isos, avis etc). play thes files tvs in house pcs via network. has worked 4 servers on period of 10 years.

with new hyperv setup streaming of data accross network pauses 30s - 60s every 5-10 mins.  (varies idea)

using resource monitor on server can see @ times when palyback 'pauses' disk io , network io drop zero. both bak , normal playback resumes.

my setup is:

gigabyte z68 mainboard

intel core i5 2500k (not overclocked)

16gb ddr3 ram

onboard realtek gigabit nic

intel  pro/1000 gt desktop adapter (added after problem noticed in attempt fix)

adaptec 31205 raid controller

2x 1tb hdd in mirror (boot)

5x 2tb hdd in raid 5 (data)

i have installed windows server 2008 r2 sp1 hyper-v role on boot drive , installed updates

i have installed virtual sbs 2011 standard on fixed virtual disk (located on boot drive) , installed updates. server has fixed 10gb of ram assigned.

the 8tb data drive 'offline' in host server , attached 'physical' hard drive virtual sbs 2011.

when streaming files from the data drive i regular pauses desribed above.

i have installed hotfix windows6.1-kb2517329-v2-x64 without change.

i have installed intel nic , dedicated virtual sbs2011 without change.

also, copying files data disk slow - 3mb/s

previously non-virtual sbs 2008 server , same setup coudl throw anythign wanted @ , playback never stuttered (i.e. coudl copy hundreds of gigs or data disk whilst simultaneously watching show , woudl work fine).

 

any appreciated dont want drop hyper-v , return standard server.

i'm not entirely sure of guest configuration, might consider using synthetic network adapter if you're not doing so. also, how of cpu resources have allocated guest?

Can no longer user MS Update - Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered

hi, i'm new server 2003.  installed it.  removed enhanced ie security.  proceed download , install windows server 2003 sp1, of dot net (1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, , updates), , sp2. after downloaded , installed of above, tried windows update menu option in ie.  (ie 8 windows server 2003) , sits there "done" in lower left hand corner.  never brings in window. so try www.microsoft.com -> download , trails -> update.  received error message "files required use microsoft update no longer registered or installed on computer".  click on register or reinstall files me now.  window changes , "check latest version of windows updating software .... ".   sits there (last time sat there on hour). i went on internet , found instructions: regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wups.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 atl.dll regsvr32 msxml3.dll did not work either.  have other suggestions?...

How do a find data in one file, search for it in another file and if not found, write a custom message to another file
