MySQL Performance on a Hyper-V Ubuntu Server

hello,

i'm running hyper-v server 2012.  my server has 8-core 4ghz amd cpu, , 16gb of ram.  i have guest os, ubuntu 12.04 installed.  i have 2 2tb 7200 rpm hard disks in raid-1.

i installed basic lamp stack on server , site i'm developing extremely slow.  i have narrowed issue down mysql.  i have mysql on server across network , works fine when connect website mysql server.  i installed iotop , noticed disk usage goes high when make request page.

i've found technet post (but can't paste link because account not verified).  i didn't want change 2 options hard disk. (enable write caching on device , turn off windows write-cache buffer flushing on device)

any advice appreciated.

thanks!

7200 rpm disks relatively slow sql work.  have done io stress tests on disk determine if disk performing according expectations?  database configured same on mysql server across network?  what's hardware configuration of system?  how mysql database stored on vm?  did create fixed or dynamic disks storage on placed databases?  using legacy network adapters or network adapters on vm?

btw, can post text of link.  it's no different other text; isn't 'hot' link.
