dns secondary zone etc.
hi all,
i have small question regarding dns configuration. let's have remote site , remote site b connected via slow wan. in site have server running both dc , dns role (no ad integrated zones). have dns server @ site b. secondary zone has been configured @ site b replicate sites primary zone. @ site b have read-only copy of zone/ database. we have 10 clients located in site b. make sure, clients not go on wan resolve names, guess dns server ip configuration on nic should pointing ip address of dns server located in site b 10 clients. correct ? have if let's change ip address of 1 of clients located in site b. contact local dns server (in site b) , (because it's read copy) forward it's master in site a? way of thinking correct ?
also, secondary zones along zone transfers recommended in such scenarios or should go stub zones ?
thanks
adam
hi adam ,
1. first question :
it’s correct .clients not query external dns servers if configured internal dns server .
2. second question :
it's not correct .we can refer article detailed information .see chapter :example: how dynamic update works :
dynamic update :
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc784052(v=ws.10).aspx
3. third question :
better use secondary zone , zone transfer .
if use stub zone ,all queries sent dns server .since wan connection slow ,it may cause problems .
when use secondary zone ,clients on site b send queries dns server b .it not put pressure on wan connection .zone transfer can ensure accuracy of records .
best regards,
leo
