IE8 Support ends before Server 2003 R2 support, how is this possible?

i have been shown warning ie8 out of support , vulnerable, yet server 2003 r2 supposed under support until 2015.  if ie8 latest browser can installed on 2003 r2 (and require os functions eg. updating) surely invalidates security of whole os.

it? server 2003 r2 secure , supported 2015 inc ie8 or isn't it?

mainstream support windows server 2003 r2 ended in 2010. in extended support until july 14, 2015, means while can still receive security updates cannot receive non-security hotfixes without hotfix agreement microsoft (see microsoft support lifecycle policy faq).

in terms of lifecycle support, understanding internet explorer falls under support product released with. ie 8 shipped windows 7 , windows server 2008 r2. both windows 7 , windows server 2008 r2 still in mainstream support me means product, microsoft still supports ie 8 on these platforms. many web sites or applications may choose not support ie8. example of office 365 phased out support ie 8 in april @ same time end of support of windows xp , office 2003 , other products.

the part can't figure out sure whether can ie8 security updates windows server 2003 r2.

to answer question, believe ie 8 still supported if you're running windows 7 or windows server 2008 r2. running windows server 2003 r2, have it's not concern ie 8 no longer supported concern entire server os out of mainstream support.
